Looking at his earlier work, he always seemed like a solid actor who fit his roles well. But Cha Se-gye is this obsessive, single-minded chaebol who loves exactly one person with his whole being — and he performs that *exactly* as written.

The reason I normally hate romance dramas is the guaranteed stretch where the two leads keep misreading each other, missing each other's timing, sulking for episodes at a time — basically force-feeding you sweet potatoes with no water.
This drama: neither lead holds grudges, neither one jumps to the worst interpretation, neither one sulks for long. Even when the other person acts cold or says something sharp, the response is 'you must have been that scared' or 'I know what's in your heart anyway.' That emotional stability is SO satisfying ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Most sageuk dramas slap nokeuihongsan on everyone because it photographs beautifully regardless of accuracy. Here, the fact that she wakes up wearing it makes perfect sense — she slipped into the body of someone filming a historical drama, and that character would naturally be in 'unmarried young woman' costume.

I cannot stand cheesy dramas and I hate romcoms — and this show IS cheesy, it IS a romcom, it is the platonic ideal of a romcom — but it's FUN?? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ The two leads just perform it so *charmingly* that you buy it completely, and the writer clearly understood the assignment for what viewers want right now

진짜 존나재밌음 나 유치한 드라마 못 보고 로코 싫어하는데 이거 진짜 유치하고 로코 그 자체의 로코거든? 근데 재밌어ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 일단 주연배우 둘이 연기를 너무 매력있게 하니까 설득이 되고 작가도 캐디를 요즘 감성에 맞게 잘한 것 같음

Makes me wonder if certain people are just waiting for the ratings to drop — they seem annoyed that the costumes and props are getting praised for historical accuracy, that both leads are getting called great actors, that the male lead's past life as a Grand Prince is landing well, that the meta-dialogue about accuracy inside the drama-within-a-drama is being celebrated.
This isn't even a controversial show, and we're not talking a 2–3% dip. Sitting at 9–10% is genuinely strong ratings and there are still people being weirdly hostile about it ㅋㅋ

Leads aren't even my type, AND Heo Nam-jun was hosting the Grand Prize ceremony that night so I was like (rest omitted)... I had genuinely written this off as a drama I would never watch in my life.
